Fly Private to Lijiang, China | Lijiang International Airport

Rent a private jet and visit Lijiang, a city in China with a rich history dating back more than 800 years to the Song Dynasty. Lijiang served as an important city geographically, guarding the division of the Jade River into three streams, among which canals and waterways were cut to flow along the old town streets.

In ancient times, the Baisha Old Town was the hub of silk embroidery in southwest China, and the most important place of the Ancient Southern Silk Road, also called the Ancient Tea and Horse Road. The Southern Silk Road began in Burma, passed through Lijiang, Shangri-La County, Tibet; through Iran and the Fertile Crescent, and finally arriving in the Mediterranean Sea.

The Baisha Old Town was the political, commercial, and cultural center for the Naxi people and other ethnic groups between the  mid 600’s and early 1100’s AD. Lijiang City replaced the former administrative region of Lijiang Naxi Autonomous Prefecture. It was under the rule of the Mu family’s (木氏) local commanders (土司) during the Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty.

An American commissioner authored a book bringing fame to the town during the 19th century, and tourists returned after China liberalized its visa policy during the 1980s. Local restaurants and cafes began to pop up, and domestic and international attention was gained after an earthquake in 1996.

Amid the ruins, people were drawn to the lifestyle and environment around Lijiang, and tourism rose dramatically. Movies and TV shows have made it as popular as Dali, Yunnan’s main tourist spot, although Xishuangbanna on the rise as both Lijiang and Dali become more commercial, and more expensive.

Then, swing by World Heritage Park, covering approximately 30 acres, with displays of several scenic spots all in one spot. It’s a very nice spot, and its surroundings are very tourist-friendly.

Mufu Palace, once inhabited by the My Clan that ruled for several centuries in China, is a very large complex, housing many fine works of art before wars and the revolution. You can go to the top to also visit a Daoist temple where you can be given a fortune for a small donation. There are some tea tasting areas, and a local wine is available in shot glasses.

Next up, Square Street. It’s a lot like the kind of China Town you’d find in America – sections dedicated to local cuisine and merchandise. If you want to experience some real original Chinese cuisine, this is the place.

Lijiang Impressions Show is put on daily by the people of Lijiang, and is one of the must-see attractions while in Lijiang. If you don’t understand the local language, you may not get the full effect, but it’s interesting to know the people in the show are locals, and not professional actors/dancers.

Dayan Naxi Ancient Concert is a great show put on in Lijiang that almost anyone will recommend to attend during your visit. The music is of local culture, so tourists from the west will definitely be experiencing something new, and the show is explained in English as well as Chinese for those not native.

Scenic photos can be had over at Lugu Lake. Many people comment on how beautiful Lugu Lake is, and how nice the people are. However, the one thing that stands out is if the difference in weather due to its location is less than favorable, your stay may not be very exciting.

Finally, there’s White Water River, more popularly known as “Blue Moon Valley”. This man-made scenic spot is truly a beautiful way to end your stay. You can find it yourself or go on the Jade Snow Dragon Mountain tour, but it’s great to see the waterfalls and snow-capped mountain either way.
